Free pay-transparency law data

The same catalog of 27 laws that powers our checker, free to use in your own tools, articles and spreadsheets. Please credit PayTransparency with a link.

Embed a state’s status

A small card that answers “does this state require pay ranges in job postings?” and stays current when the law changes. Swap ca for any two-letter state code.

JSON API

No key needed. Responses are cached for a day and allow cross-origin requests.

GET https://www.paytransparency.app/api/v1/laws GET https://www.paytransparency.app/api/v1/laws?state=CA

Each law has its jurisdiction, level (state or locality), requirement type (posting, disclosure on request or pay-data reporting), effective date, whether it’s in effect today, employer threshold, whether a salary range and benefits must be posted, the per-violation penalty range, the enforcing agency, and a link to our page about it.

CSV

The same rows as a spreadsheet: pay-transparency-laws.csv. It’s regenerated daily, so the in_effect column flips on the day a law starts.

Fine print

The data summarizes each statute and the enforcing agency’s guidance; it isn’t legal advice. See how we keep it current. Found something wrong? Email compliance@paytransparency.app.
